What should an NT literary journal look like? … have your say & win a $50 book voucher!

As part of our research to assess the feasibility of a Northern Territory literary journal, we want to know what the Territory community thinks:

  • What should an NT literary journal look like?
  • What kind of content would you like to see in a Territory journal?
  • What form should the journal take?

We want your ideas, so why not take five minutes to fill out our anonymous survey?

Thanks to Red Kangaroo Books in Alice Springs, everyone who completes our survey will go into the draw to win a $50 Red Kangaroos Books  voucher. To be eligible to go into the draw to win a $50 book voucher, please be sure to enter your email address at the end of the survey. Just follow the link:

  1. I’d like to see a traditional publication – an almanac of a cross section of NT writers from in book form, plus an online edition for those who don’t like paper any more. It should be bound well enough to sit on the bookshelf, but be flexible enough to be left on waiting room side tables. It should be classy – a publication sought after within and without the NT. Perhaps biannual.
It should contain stories of Territorians, by Territorians and would include fiction and non-fiction and the best poetry (yes even slam) and thus have a loose definition of ‘literature’. The best chapters of Territory books could be included – anything from this century that is an icon of the NT. Future editions could narrow to the year (or two) before hand. Commentaries by the NT’s best thinkers, historians, futurists and children (the winning entry of Territory Read Competitions for example).
It should be a snap shot of our time and a portrait of our past – funny, sad, contentious and humdrum, but readable.
A wonderful idea, sadly missing in this century.

  2. A NT Literary Journal would be a collectible collation of literature that reflects the experience of being in the Territory! Indulgent visual representations complement the written word, and high gloss graphics seduce to reader. Locals and visitors alike contribute to this remarkable collation of prose and poetry that expresses the sentiment evoked by the landscape, the communities, and the timeless spirituality of the Northern Territory.
